Eurowings to expand in Cologne/Bonn

The Lufthansa subsidiary, Eurowings has announced further expansion at Cologne Bonn Airport. Although, for strategic reasons,  the airline will be discontinuing its long-haul operations in Cologne/Bonn with the start of the winter flight schedule, Eurowings is still reckoning with an additional 600,000 flight passengers in Cologne/Bonn for 2018. This will mean that more aircraft will be stationed here and the range of European and domestic flights expanded.

“We very much regret that with the long-haul routes in winter we will lose an attractive transport sector, especially since this product was originally launched at Cologne/Bonn and had developed successfully.  However, we are also very pleased that Eurowings is clearly commited to the location Cologne/Bonn and wants to expand here even further,” said Athanasios Titonis, the Airport CEO.

This will mean that with the new summer flight schedule the number of the medium-range Eurowings aircraft based at Cologne/Bonn will increase by three planes to a total of 19 jets. The Berlin route will also be increased to up to 95 turnarounds a week. This way, Eurowings every year will be carrying some 600,000 passengers more to and from Cologne /Bonn.
