Moxy Hotel comes to the Airport

30.10.2018

Spending the night overlooking the Airport: the decision on the developer, investor and operator of the new hotel at Cologne Bonn Airport has been made. Opposite Terminal 1, the Cologne--based real estate investment and project development company Art-Invest Real Estate will build and then operate a Moxy Hotel - a young, modern hotel product by the Marriott Group, the world's largest hotel chain. The lifestyle hotel concept features a total of 250 rooms, a conference and meeting area, as well as gastronomic and fitness facilities. Construction work is to begin at the end of 2019, and the opening of the hotel is planned for 2021. The investment volume for the striking building is around € 35 million.

"We are more than happy that with Moxy, we have found a unique, modern brand for the hotel that suits us very well. Passengers staying at the hotel at  Cologne/Bonn in the future will be able to reach the terminal on foot in just a few minutes. The erection of the hotel is a major benefit for Cologne Bonn Airport. It is also an important step in the development of our landside areas, which hold a great deal of potential," says Johan Vanneste, Chairman of the Management Board of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH.

"Cologne/Bonn Airport has seen an above-average development in recent years and holds a tremendous potential for a lifestyle hotel at  this outstanding location. We are delighted to be constructing a landmark building for the Airport together with Cologne/Bonn Airport and the world's largest hotel chain, Marriott, to operate it ourselves and to keep it in the portfolio of the AIREF Core Budget Hotel-Fonds in the long run," says Dr. Peter Ebertz, Managing Director and Head of Hotels.

The new hotel will be an eye-catcher, located directly in front of the Airport railway station. The building in the shape of a pentagon will follow the basic layout of the Airport, which was designed by the architect Prof. Paul Schneider-Esleben in 1970. The public areas of the hotel, for example the lobby, the restaurant and the bar, are to be built on the top floor of the hotel, from where guests can enjoy a panoramic view of the Airport, the aprons and the runway. The 250 rooms will be designed according to the needs of diverse guests - from business travellers to families with children.
