New bridge for the Unterer Scheuermühlenteich: Cologne Bonn Airport has donated 7,500 euros to the Wahn-Wahnheide-Lind Citizens' Association from Cologne-Porz. The association, which is responsible for maintaining the Scheuermühlenteich recreational area, used the money and other donations to build a new wooden bridge over the Unterer Scheuermühlenteich on the edge of the Wahner Heide in the immediate vicinity of the airport. The new bridge was necessary because the old one was dilapidated.
"It is a matter close to our hearts to contribute to the preservation of the local recreation area and the Wahner Heide," says Thilo Schmid, Chairman of the Management Board of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. "We are delighted to be able to support the Wahn-Wahnheide-Lind Citizens' Association in its tireless work with our donation and make the construction of the new bridge possible."
Gerhard Möller, first chairman of the Wahn-Wahnheide-Lind Citizens' Association, says: "As an association, we rely on donations from companies in our neighbourhood, which is why it is extremely important for us to be able to count on a reliable partner like the airport."
The local recreation area is located on the edge of the Wahner Heide, one of the largest and most species-rich nature reserves in Central Europe. More than 700 rare animal and plant species can be found there. As a direct neighbour, the airport invests several hundred thousand euros a year in preserving the Heide.
