Over the Easter holidays, numerous rules and measures will continue to apply at the Airport to protect passengers and staff. In light of the current coronavirus situation, we would like to offer you a few tips to get you off to a healthy start to the Easter holidays, as well as some links to further information.
"Passengers are advised to check with their tour operator or airline shortly before travelling for the latest information on travel regulations. We have a comprehensive set of measures in place at the Airport to prevent infection, in particular the wearing of medical-grade masks in the terminals and the rules on social distancing," Airport spokesperson Alexander Weise tells us.
Covid-19 testing facilities at Cologne Bonn Airport
As of 1 February 2021, travellers and also visitors who have not booked a flight can get tested for a fee in the Centogene Testing Centre in Terminal 2. The centre offers both PCR tests and rapid antigen tests. In order to avoid long waiting times, it is recommended that you register for the test in advance. Special rules for entry and departure
There are currently special rules in place for travel to certain countries, for example the mandatory requirement to supply a negative coronavirus test. As of 30 March 2021 these rules also apply for the return journey (for all travellers aged 6 years and up). Passengers will need to check with their tour operator or airline before travelling to find out what rules are in place for their specific holiday destination. Travel safely from Cologne Bonn to your destination
We consider the protection of travellers and Airport employees to be our top priority. We want travellers to be able to set off on their holidays from Cologne Bonn safely and to feel reassured when they arrive at the Airport. We have a mandatory requirement across the whole Airport for travellers and visitors aged 6 years and above to wear a medical-grade face mask. The following masks are permitted: both OP masks and FFP2 masks, as well as masks that comply with the KN95/N95 standard (in each case without a breathing valve). In addition to this, the usual rules on social distancing and hygiene also apply. You will also find hand sanitiser dispensers placed around the entire Airport premises for you to make use of. Check-in and security
Between 6 am and 10 pm, all check-ins will be dealt with in Terminal 1. On Friday 26 March, we will start using Terminal 2 again during the night. Between 10 pm and 6 am, check-ins will be handled there exclusively, likewise all arrivals of passengers flying into the Airport; the desks in Terminal 1 will be closed during this period. Security checks will be performed centrally in Terminal 1. Travellers will only be permitted to take one piece of hand luggage per person. All further items of luggage must be handed in at check-in. Single-use gloves and protective face masks may be worn during security checks. However, these may need to be removed briefly during the check at the request of the security employee.
Shops
In the public area of Terminal 1, passengers can enjoy shopping at REWE, Kamps and Kirschner. The opening hours of the shops are based around the flight schedule and are published on the Airport website. There are also a number of restaurants and cafés in thesecurity area in Terminal 1 for passengers to make use of – although they also have restricted opening hours.
We estimate that up to thirty flights a day will be departing from Cologne Bonn Airport during the Easter holidays. The Airport is expecting around 600 take-offs and landings of passenger flights over the whole holiday period.
The main countries that we will be flying to are Turkey and Spain, in particular the Canaries and the Balearic Islands.
