From the cathedral city to the cathedral park: Eurowings has been connecting Cologne Bonn Airport with Chişinău since 1 May. Eurowings is flying to the Eastern European capital twice a week from Cologne/Bonn in the current summer timetable - on Wednesdays and Saturdays. From July, three new destinations will be added to the airline's wide range of services: Samsun (from 8 July, Mondays) and Kayseri (from 11 July, Thursdays) in Turkey as well as the Moroccan city of Fez (from 6 July, Saturdays).
‘We are delighted that our important partner Eurowings is adding four more destinations to its already large portfolio in Cologne/Bonn,’ says Thilo Schmid, CEO of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. ‘With Chişinău, we are adding a city in Eastern Europe that is well worth seeing and that we have not previously had on our flight schedule. Additional destinations in Turkey and Morocco are ideal for holiday travellers as well as for passengers visiting family and friends.’
The Moldovan capital Chişinău is the political, economic and cultural centre of the country. The city on the River Bîc is considered a very green city with many large parks and is surrounded by a picturesque landscape of vineyards and hills. Chişinău is home to a number of historical and cultural sights such as the National Theatre and the city's triumphal arch. The architecture generally reflects the eventful history of the region - from Soviet buildings to Orthodox churches.
Samsun is the capital of the province of the same name in northern Turkey, lies on the coast of the Black Sea and is the economic and cultural centre of the region. In addition to numerous sights and museums in the city, the long and wide sandy Atakum Beach is well worth a visit. The Amisos Hill offers a marvellous view of the surrounding area with its diverse nature. Samsun, which was already inhabited in ancient times, also plays a central role in Turkish history, as the Turkish War of Liberation began there in 1919.
Kayseri is the capital of the province of the same name in Cappadocia in Turkey. Kayseri lies 1,054 metres above sea level at the foot of the extinct Erciyes volcano, which created the tuff layers in Cappadocia. The town is famous for its air-dried beef ham (pastırma), its garlic sausage sucuk and the stuffed dumplings mantı. Sights include the Grand Bazaar, the Grand Mosque, the fortress, the old town and the Archaeological Museum.
Fez is one of the four royal cities in Morocco. The oldest and largest medina (old town) in the whole of North Africa is located in Fès and it is the religious, cultural and artisan centre of Morocco. Parts of the city have been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, impressing visitors with their beauty, diversity and cultural richness. The second oldest mosque in the country, the Kairaouine Mosque, is located here. In the historic college in the old town, the Medersa Bou Inania, there is an inner courtyard with magnificent ornamentation. Also worth seeing are the city gates decorated with tiles, the colourful tanners' quarter and a garden oasis.
The flight time between Cologne/Bonn and Chişinău is around two and a half hours. The flight to Samsun, Kayseri and the royal city of Fès takes just under four hours in each case. All new connections can be booked at www.eurowings.com.
