ver.di announces warning strikes at the airport
The service sector union ver.di has announced warning strikes at Cologne Bonn Airport. The background is the collective bargaining for employees in the public service and aviation security. According to the union, employees in the public service, at passenger controls as well as at personnel and goods controls are called upon to stop work for the whole day on Friday, 17 March. Due to shift work, the strikes are to start at the beginning of the night shift in the night from Thursday to Friday. They are to end at 11.59 p.m. on Friday, in some areas not until early Saturday morning.
Due to the strike announcement, massive disruptions to flight operations and a significant number of flight cancellations at the airport are to be expected. Passengers are urged to check the status of their flight with their airline or tour operator before travelling to the airport.
A total of 148 passenger flights (75 take-offs, 73 landings) are scheduled for Friday.
