The most popular destinations are Antalya and Palma de Mallorca.
The busiest day is expected to be October 18.
One last trip to sunny places before winter: Cologne Bonn Airport is once again set to be bustling during the fall break. From the last day of term on 16 October until the end of the holidays on 1 November, the airport expects more than 680,000 passengers. This represents an increase of about four percent compared to last year’s fall break.
“The fall break is traditionally one of the busiest times of the year for us,” says Thilo Schmid, Chairman of the Management Board of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. “We expect 1.2 million passengers throughout the month of October – that’s on par with a summer month. We are well prepared and look forward to ensuring passengers have a great start to their vacation and a relaxed return home.”
The busiest day of the fall break is expected to be Sunday, October 18. On that day, the airport expects around 47,000 passengers.
Once again this year, classic sun and beach destinations in the Mediterranean region and on the Turkish Riviera are particularly popular among travelers. The top destinations are Antalya, Palma de Mallorca, Hurghada, and Heraklion. For city breaks, Vienna, London, Barcelona, and Istanbul are high on the list.
Tips for starting your vacation
Passengers can help ensure a relaxed start to their trip by preparing well in advance. Here are a few tips:
- Check in online.
- Check with your airline or tour operator for the opening hours of the check-in counters and allow plenty of time.
- Check well in advance to make sure your ID is valid and to find out which travel documents you’ll need for your trip.
- For Eurowings flights, you have the option to check in the evening before your flight.
- As a customer of Eurowings, Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, or Ryanair, take advantage of the self-service baggage drop-off option in Terminal 1 (Self-Bag Drop-Off).
- Book a time slot for security screening via the airport’s website under “CGNGateWay”
- If possible, bring only one piece of carry-on luggage.
- If you are travelling by car, please book a parking space in advance via the airport’s official car park booking platform, as the car parks are very busy, particularly during the autumn half-term holidays.
