Eurowings is expanding its fleet in Cologne/Bonn and extending its route network

Cologne Bonn Airport and the airline Eurowings are further expanding their successful partnership. At the ITB (Internationale Tourismus-Börse) in Berlin, Cologne Bonn Airport and Eurowings announced that with the start of the summer flight schedule at the end of March, another of the airline's aircraft will be stationed at Cologne Bonn. With this additional aircraft, the Eurowings fleet on the apron will grow to a total of 17 aircraft. In addition, the airline is adding five new destinations from Cologne/Bonn to its route network for the summer.

“Eurowings is the largest carrier and market leader at Cologne Bonn Airport and is our most important partner as an airport. For many years, we have enjoyed a close and trusting relationship. With its focus on tourist destinations, the airline is perfectly suited to the wishes of our passengers,” says Thilo Schmid, Chairman of the Management Board of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. ‘We are very pleased that our cooperation with Eurowings is now bearing further fruit – and that we can offer travelers an even greater variety of flights at our airport,’ says Schmid

‘As a Cologne-based airline, it is of course important to us to constantly expand our range of services from the cathedral city. I am therefore delighted that we are able to offer new summer destinations such as Corsica, but also to further expand our top sunny destination Dubai in winter and in future fly Cologne residents to the warmth four times a week. We are the market leader at Cologne Bonn Airport and intend to remain so,’ emphasises Jens Bischof, CEO of Eurowings.

Porto, Bastia and more: five new destinations in summer

Eurowings will fly to a total of five new destinations from Cologne/Bonn in the upcoming summer flight schedule. There will be two flights a week to Funchal on the Portuguese island of Madeira (from 3 April, Thursdays, Sundays) and to Bastia on the French Mediterranean island of Corsica (from 12 April, Wednesdays, Saturdays). The Portuguese port city of Porto will be served three times a week from 1 May – always on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Eurowings will be flying to Klagenfurt in Austria twice a week (Mondays and Fridays) from 2 May. Erbil, the capital of the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan, will be on the flight schedule from Cologne/Bonn every Wednesday from 7 May.

With 17 aircraft in its summer flight schedule, Eurowings is the leading airline at the airport. It then serves 69 destinations in 23 countries. The top destination from Cologne/Bonn: the popular Balearic island of Mallorca. During the high season, the airline takes off for Palma up to 46 times a week and eight times a day from Cologne/Bonn.

Good prospects for the next winter flight schedule

Last October, Eurowings added two new destinations in the Gulf region to its route network from Cologne/Bonn: Dubai in the emirate of the same name and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. Both destinations are in high demand among travellers. For this reason, the airline will continue to fly to Dubai throughout April beyond the current winter flight schedule.

From November, flights to Jeddah – the only direct connection from North Rhine-Westphalia to Saudi Arabia – will continue to operate three times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Sundays) in the new winter flight schedule. On the route to Dubai, the frequency will even be increased from November: instead of three times a week, Eurowings will fly four times a week to the vibrant desert metropolis (Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays).

All flights can be booked at www.eurowings.com.
