Non-stop to Saudi Arabia: Eurowings launched its new route to Jeddah from Cologne Bonn Airport today, Tuesday (5 November). The airline will fly three times a week from Cologne/Bonn to the port city on the Red Sea – on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The return flight to the Rhineland also departs on these days of the week. The first direct route from North Rhine-Westphalia to Saudi Arabia is the second new connection that Eurowings is offering at the airport in the recently launched winter flight schedule. Last week, the airline already flew from Cologne/Bonn to Dubai for the first time. The dazzling desert emirate is also served three times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays).
‘The new Eurowings destinations Jeddah and Dubai are undoubtedly very special and an absolute enrichment for our flight schedule,’ says Thilo Schmid, Chairman of the Management Board of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. ’We are convinced that the connection to Jeddah in particular offers great added value for our location, the economy in and around Cologne and Bonn, and especially for our passengers.’
Jeddah is the gateway to Mecca, the central place of pilgrimage for Muslims, and, with its large port, it is also an economic centre in the Arab world. The metropolis, with its almost 4 million inhabitants, is also famous for numerous special attractions such as King Fahd's Fountain, one of the largest fountains in the world. Jeddah's old town is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The flight time between Cologne/Bonn and Jeddah is approximately six hours. A modern and efficient Airbus A320neo will be used – as is also the case on the route to Dubai. Connections to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates can be booked at www.eurowings.com.
