Extensive work will be carried out on the large runway (13L/31R) and an adjacent taxiway at Cologne Bonn Airport in September. The runway will be closed during the day for three weeks. The construction work will take place from Monday 2 to Friday 20 September. In consideration of the neighbourhood, construction will only take place during the day, outside the summer holidays and from Mondays to Fridays. There will be no construction work at weekends or at night.
The necessary work will start on Mondays to Fridays from 7 a.m. at the earliest and will run until 7 p.m. on these weekdays, with work finishing at 3 p.m. on Fridays. Traffic will then be routed via the crosswind runway (06/24) and the small runway (13R/31L). Outside of the work phases, the large runway can be used for air traffic without restriction.
The construction measures serve to maintain and further optimise the flight operations infrastructure; asphalt and other civil engineering work will be carried out. They will be coordinated between the Civil Engineering Department, Flight Operations and German Air Traffic Control. In addition, electrical, marking and mowing work will be carried out around the large runway within the time corridors for the measures. By bundling the work, further closure periods can be minimised.
Interested parties can find current and further information on the airport's neighbourhood portal at www.cgn-nebenan.de.
Please note: The planned construction work is dependent on the weather, so there may be delays in the schedule.
