Approaching the airport: the holiday airline Marabu Airlines is opening a base in Cologne/Bonn this autumn and will be connecting the airport with popular sunshine destinations from 11 October. With a modern Airbus A320neo, which Condor's sister airline is stationing at the airport, Marabu will fly daily from Cologne/Bonn to classic tourist destinations in Egypt and the Canary Islands: Hurghada, Fuerteventura and Tenerife. Marabu is also planning a significant expansion of its commitment for summer 2025 - with three stationed aircraft and a total of eleven destinations.
"With Marabu Airlines, we can welcome a new addition that is opening a base at our airport just in time for the popular autumn holiday season. We are delighted that our new partner is offering flights to three destinations that are particularly attractive for passengers when it gets colder again in Germany," says Thilo Schmid, Chairman of the Management Board of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. "The already planned expansion of the range of connections to the sun will offer our passengers an even greater choice from next summer."
Axel Schefe, CEO of Marabu, says: "Just over a year after its launch, Marabu has established itself as a major player in the European holiday flight market. The expansion has been successfully completed and we can now concentrate on growth. With Cologne/Bonn, Marabu is opening its first base in western Germany with a very attractive catchment area. We are very much looking forward to welcoming even more passengers from the Rhineland on board with us in future."
In October, Marabu will start with two weekly flights each to the Canary Islands of Fuerteventura (from 11 October; Fridays, Tuesdays) and Tenerife (from 12 October; Saturdays, Thursdays). There will be three flights a week to the popular seaside resort of Hurghada in Egypt (from 13 October; Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays). The airline flies back to Cologne/Bonn on the same days of the week as the outbound flights.
Three aircraft and a total of eleven destinations in summer 2025
From the end of April 2025, Marabu plans to expand its presence in Cologne/Bonn and increase the number of aircraft stationed at the airport to three. This will be accompanied by a significantly increased flight offering, which is to be expanded to a total of eleven routes. This also includes two destinations that Cologne/Bonn has not previously had on its flight schedule: Jerez de la Frontera in the south of Spain and Chania on the Greek island of Crete. Marabu will also be flying to a further nine tourist destinations: Hurghada, Fuerteventura and Tenerife will remain in the summer programme, as well as the Spanish islands of Mallorca and Gran Canaria, Faro in Portugal and, in addition to Chania on Crete, the Greek islands of Corfu, Kos and Rhodes.
Flights - both for autumn and summer - can already be booked. As Marabu is a sister company of Condor, tickets are sold by Condor as a general sales agent and are available from a price of 69.99 euros (one way) from travel agencies or via the website www.flymarabu.com.
