The most popular destinations are Antalya and Palma de Mallorca.
The autumn holidays are just around the corner – and with them the last big wave of travel for the year: Cologne Bonn Airport expects more than 650,000 passengers between the last day of school on 10 October and the end of the holidays on 26 October. This means that passenger numbers will once again reach the very high levels of previous years.
‘For many people, the autumn holidays are the perfect opportunity to fly to the sun once again and recharge their batteries. Destinations around the Mediterranean are particularly popular again this year,’ says Thilo Schmid, CEO of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. ‘The extent of people's desire to travel is also reflected in the fact that we are expecting a total of more than one million passengers in October – just as many as in the summer months. We have prepared for this wave of travel and look forward to giving passengers a pleasant start to their holidays and a relaxed return.’
On the first weekend of the holidays, from Friday, 10 October to Sunday, 12 October, more than 125,000 travellers are expected to use the airport. Around 120,000 passengers are also expected to depart or arrive at Cologne/Bonn on each of the two following weekends. The airport expects the peak day during the autumn holidays to be 12 October, with just under 44,000 passengers.
The most popular destinations in 2025 will again be in the warmer south – particularly Turkey, Spain and Italy. The sunny destinations of Antalya and Palma de Mallorca are in particularly high demand. Greece is also recording significant growth this year. Istanbul and London are among the most popular cities for city breaks.
Tips for starting your holiday
Passengers can help to ensure a relaxed start to their journey by being well prepared. Here are a few tips:
- Check in online.
- Check with your airline or tour operator for the opening hours of the check-in counters and allow plenty of time.
- Check in good time whether your ID is valid and which travel documents you need for your trip.
- For Eurowings flights, you can check in the evening before your flight.
- As a customer of Eurowings, Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines or Ryanair, you can use the self-bag-drop-off facility in Terminal 1.
- Book a time slot for security screening on the airport's website at ‘CGNGateWay’.
- If possible, take only one piece of hand luggage with you.
- Liquids and creams (up to 100 ml per container) must be stored in a resealable 1-litre plastic bag.
- Do not pack liquids and technical devices at the bottom of your hand luggage, as they must be presented at the security checkpoint.
If you are arriving by car, we recommend reserving a parking space in advance via the airport's official parking reservation platform, as the car parks can be very busy, especially during the holidays:
