Cologne Bonn Airport is looking forward to the start of the European Football Championships
Kick-off for EURO 2024: Just one more sleep - then the ball will roll at the European Championships. Cologne Bonn Airport is ready for the football festival, which will take place in Germany from 14 June to 14 July. The airport will be welcoming passengers, fans, teams and staff to the "Host City Cologne" over the coming weeks in the appropriate European Championship design.
The official UEFA animations will be shown on many screens in the terminals, European Championship flags will fly in front of them - and the giant "Giant Trophy" will stand in the centre of Terminal 1. Fans, families and other travellers can take their own souvenir photo in front of the 3.5 metre high replica of the European Championship trophy. This is also where the "Welcome Desks" are located, where volunteers are on hand to support travellers. On the apron, passengers are transported by an electric bus specially branded for the tournament in the European Championship design.
Over the past few months, the airport has prepared intensively for the tournament and the associated increase in the number of travellers and continues to be in close contact with the City of Cologne's organisation team, the authorities, German air traffic control and other partners. Five matches will take place in Cologne during the European Championships, four matches in the group phase and one round of 16 match. There will be additional flights for these matches in particular, but the airport is also expecting full aircraft with many fans for the matches in other NRW cities. A total of around 160 additional passenger flights and around 30,000 additional passengers are expected. With the national teams from Hungary and Scotland as well as the team from England, two of Germany's group opponents and a tournament co-favourite will also land at the airport during the tournament.
Passengers, fans, teams and staff can find all the important information about the sporting event on the airport's newly launched website at www.koeln-bonn-airport.de. Fans can follow all EURO 2024 activities at the airport on the airport's social media channels.
