A successful Cologne partnership enters its next phase: Cologne Bonn Airport and REWE Markt GmbH have signed a new lease agreement valid through July 31, 2036. This means that passengers and visitors will be able to shop at the airport 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for the next ten years.

“REWE belongs to our airport just as Kölsch belongs to Cologne, and we are happy and proud that this will remain the case for the next ten years,” says Thilo Schmid, CEO of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. “In addition to our passengers and guests, the store is also an important stop in the daily lives of the approximately 15,000 employees at the airport — whether during their lunch break or on their way home.”

Lars Klein, Chairman of the Management Board of REWE Region West, adds: “For many, our store at the airport has long since become an integral part of daily life. I am all the more pleased that we are continuing our successful partnership with Cologne Bonn Airport and further developing the location together. This means we will remain a reliable partner for our customers around the clock, 365 days a year.”

The familiar assortment of groceries, drugstore items, and convenient grab-and-go snacks will remain available in the approximately 500-square-meter sales area in Terminal 1. The selection will continue to be complemented by selected regional products. The store remains open seven days a week at all hours, so even on holidays like Christmas, travelers, visitors, and employees can conveniently shop at the REWE at the airport.

Modern shopping experience

Next year, the store will also be expanded to include additional self-checkout lanes, while the staffed checkout lane will remain. Furthermore, the location will be continuously modernized throughout the contract period and adapted to current customer needs to ensure that shopping convenience and service remain at the highest level.

As part of the contract extension, the airport store is also unveiling a new, custom-designed brand identity: In addition to the familiar REWE slogan (“Your Market”), the airport’s name will now be prominently integrated into the logo—as a visible symbol of the store’s close connection to the location.

When it opened in 2009, the REWE supermarket at Cologne Bonn Airport was the first REWE at a German airport and, at the time, completed the new shopping mall in Terminal 1. Back then, the store was closed between midnight and 5 a.m.; today, shopping is available around the clock, even at night.
