Cologne Bonn Airport is facing the last big wave of travellers of the year: during the upcoming autumn holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia, the airport expects around 650,000 passengers. On Friday (11 October), around 43,000 travellers will be welcomed – the expected peak during the holidays. A total of around 125,000 passengers will use the airport from Friday to Sunday during the first holiday weekend. In October, the airport again expects to handle over 1 million passengers
‘For many people, the autumn holidays are traditionally their holiday time. Destinations in the sun around the Mediterranean are particularly popular,’ says Thilo Schmid, CEO of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. “The number of travellers remains at a very high level. We expect to welcome more than 1 million passengers at our airport again in October – as we did during the summer months of July, August and September,” says Schmid.
The most popular holiday destinations during the autumn holidays are Turkey and Spain. Most travellers are flying to Antalya or Palma de Mallorca. Istanbul and London are particularly popular destinations for city trips. The highest passenger growth is being seen in Egypt, where the number of holidaymakers has almost doubled compared to the previous year.
With the start of the autumn holidays, Marabu Airlines will be flying from Cologne/Bonn to Hurghada, Palma de Mallorca, Fuerteventura and Tenerife several times a week. After the holidays, further attractive connections will be added, in particular the long-haul destinations Dubai and Jeddah, which will be served by Eurowings from 27 October.
