60 new e-charging points in car park 1
Cologne Bonn Airport is getting new charging points for electric cars – from the region, for the region. The charging infrastructure is being provided by the Bonn municipal utility company. In the first phase of the project, SWB Energie und Wasser, the municipal utility subsidiary responsible for electric mobility, has planned and installed 30 double charging stations with 60 charging points in the P1 car park at Cologne Bonn Airport. These have been in operation since the beginning of September. The charging stations mark the beginning of the partnership between the two companies. Further charging stations in the P2 and P3 car parks at the airport are already in the planning stage.
‘At Cologne Bonn Airport, the expansion of electric mobility is one of the most important elements of our sustainability strategy. The new partnership with Stadtwerke Bonn will help us to further expand a modern e-charging infrastructure on the airport grounds,’ says Thilo Schmid, CEO of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. “Cologne Bonn Airport already has e-charging points. Fast-charging stations and normal wall boxes. We are continuously expanding this offer and adapting it to the needs of users of e-cars,” says Schmid.
Olaf Hermes, SWB Group Managing Director and Managing Director of SWB Energie und Wasser, explains: ‘For many years, we have been continuously expanding the charging infrastructure in Bonn and the region. Our goal is a dense charging network with a wide range of options for everyone. This is the only way to make the mobility transition possible for private transport as well. I am all the more pleased that we are working with Cologne/Bonn Airport to create more publicly accessible charging infrastructure. Many travellers and visitors will benefit from the new charging points here.’
Activation made easy
The new charging options are charging stations with a charging capacity of up to 22 kW per charging point. Parking customers can activate the charging points with all common charging cards, with the TankE network app or alternatively with the QR codes provided there. The apps of other electricity providers can also be used. Newly installed signs and floor markings explicitly identify the parking spaces for electric vehicles. When using the charging stations with the TankE network app or the QR codes, the energy price is 0.53 euros/kilowatt hour.
SWB Energie und Wasser operates over 1,100 private and public charging points, making it one of the leading providers of charging infrastructure in the Rhineland. In addition to public charging infrastructure, cooperation with companies and fleet operators has become a mainstay of the business unit at the municipal utility subsidiary in recent years. SWB Energie und Wasser counts around 7,000 individual users at its charging stations per month.
Cologne Bonn Airport takes its responsibility in social, ecological and societal issues seriously. Sustainability is an important part of the corporate strategy. By 2030, CO2 emissions will be reduced by 65 per cent, and by 2035, only climate-neutral engines will be used on the apron.
