More than 1.7 million travelers during the holidays

Antalya and Palma once again the most popular destinations

With the start of the summer holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia, Cologne/Bonn Airport is expecting the largest wave of travelers of the year. The airport is expecting 1.76 million travelers over the next six and a half weeks. The busiest period will be the fourth weekend of the holidays at the beginning of August, with around 118,000 passengers. On the busiest day (August 8), 41,000 travelers are expected to take off and land at Cologne/Bonn.

“We are once again delighted to see an increase in passenger numbers – this year's forecast even exceeds the successful summer travel seasons of the past two years,” says Thilo Schmid, Chairman of the Management Board of Cologne/Bonn Airport. “Many families are traveling to popular sunny destinations in southern Europe. We can offer many new restaurants and shops, are optimally prepared, and are looking forward to welcoming numerous travel-happy passengers to our terminals.”

Popular vacation countries, cities, and destinations

During the summer months, 26 airlines offer flights to 101 international destinations in 36 countries. As in previous years, the most popular holiday destinations are Turkey and Spain, followed by Italy and Greece, then Croatia and Portugal. The most popular destinations are Antalya and Palma de Mallorca. City breaks are most popular to Istanbul, Vienna, London, and Barcelona. Egypt is recording the highest increase in visitor numbers, with around 40 percent more tourists traveling there from Cologne/Bonn this summer than last year.

This summer, the airport is presenting itself with innovative concepts for passengers. Fifteen newly designed cafés, bars, restaurants, and shops invite visitors to enjoy themselves. Modernized terminals offer travelers new furniture, water dispensers, and green and regional design elements. Overall, Cologne Bonn Airport will offer an improved travel experience in 2025 thanks to a higher quality of stay in many areas, greater comfort, and digital services such as self-bag drop-off and CGNGateway for booking time slots for security checks.
