Thilo Schmid to remain at the helm until 2030

At its meeting today, the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH decided to extend the contract of CEO Thilo Schmid (48), which runs until 2025, by a further five years. Schmid will thus continue to steer the company's fortunes until 2030.

‘Since taking office, Thilo Schmid has led Cologne Bonn Airport with great commitment and determination. Together with the employees, he has successfully mastered the challenges of the past few months. He has further developed the company in terms of traffic and economically and effectively implemented a new strategy for a prosperous future for the airport,’ says Prof. Klaus-Dieter Scheurle, Chairman of the Supervisory Board. ‘We are pleased that Thilo Schmid will be at the helm of the company in the long term in the coming years. The airport has important strategic tasks ahead of it, including, in particular, sustainably strengthening the attractiveness of the location on the basis of consistent economic development and achieving ambitious climate protection goals. We are confident that we will achieve these key future goals with Thilo Schmid,’ says Prof. Scheurle.

Thilo Schmid has been Chairman of the Board of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH since 1 March 2022. He began his more than 20-year career in aviation in 2002 at the Lufthansa Group. In 2012, he moved to Düsseldorf Airport, where he held various management positions, most recently with overall responsibility for operations and as the accountable manager. Schmid, who studied business administration, is married and has three children.

The Supervisory Board has also started the process of finding a new member of the management team to fill the vacancy from January onwards in the coming months. Until this process is completed, Thilo Schmid will manage the company alone as Chairman of the Management Board.
