Exclusive tour on World Children's Day
A special tour for special guests: On Saturday, September 20, Cologne/Bonn Airport invited a total of 75 children and young people to an exclusive tour. With finger paints, photo spots, mascots, and hands-on activities, the airport gave children and young people from the region special insights into what goes on at an international commercial airport in the airport company's 75th anniversary year.
“Inviting 75 children and young people from the surrounding area is something that is very close to the airport's heart,” says Cenk Özöztürk, Managing Director of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. “We have close ties to our region – and our airport is there for everyone. We are delighted that so many young people enthusiastically accepted our invitation and are so interested in this special place and our work.”
Throughout the day, the children and young people were able to experience the airport up close from different perspectives and get involved themselves. There were interactive stations in the visitor cinema with glitter tattoos and a button machine, as well as on the apron with a creative finger painting activity area on a decommissioned real airplane. Special vehicles for de-icing, the airport fire department, and the marshaller were presented on the operational areas.
A highlight of the visit was the large children's press conference in the event lounge in Terminal 2, which marked the end of an eventful day at the airport. There, airport managing director Cenk Özöztürk answered questions from the young visitors and gave personal insights into his professional career and his exciting everyday life at Cologne Bonn Airport.
Commitment of local partners and institutions
The airport was supported on this special day by local partners and institutions. The REWE supermarket in Terminal 1 provided the children and young people with healthy snacks and drinks. The Cologne-based airline LEAV Aviation supported World Children's Day at the airport with goodie bags and a hands-on station with coloring pictures. Both partners also brought their life-size mascots to the airport on the day of the event to delight the young guests.
The children and young people, who were able to experience the airport from a special perspective, were accompanied by representatives from the Cologne-based institution Kindernöte e.V., the Inclusive OT Ohmstraße, and the Social Welfare Organization of the German Armed Forces.
