A beautiful new terminal

Renovation work in the terminals

A more relaxed atmosphere, better food and an all-round feel-good factor at the airport. The ongoing renovation work in the terminals offers the best prospects for this.

The airport is getting a completely new look – based on a versatile concept with many highlights. Travellers and airport guests can look forward to a total of 17 new restaurants and bars at Cologne Bonn Airport, with a high quality of stay and innovative concepts – there is something for every taste and occasion. The range includes international and local specialities. Highlights are street food, simit and sushi. The unique new retail and hospitality concept impresses with its wide range of offers and the unmistakable regional connection to the location of Cologne Bonn Airport.

International concept with a strong regional connection

The new gastronomy, terminal utilisation and lounge concepts, embedded in an overall concept that also includes plans for the redesign of the security check, will, when completed, create a new feel-good atmosphere in the terminals and a contemporary, holistic and improved passenger experience.

The concept also incorporates regional aspects, with the blue Rhine meandering through the middle of Terminal 2 on the airside as a leitmotif. A green wall measuring around 150 square metres is made of real plants, including mosses and ferns that have been preserved using a special process. New seating invites passengers to linger before departure, flanked by four new catering units, which are expected to open in March 2025. In Terminal 1, the ‘stars’ at the airside corners will be redesigned – with visual references to the cities of Bonn and Cologne and to the history of the airport location as central design elements.

We are building for you – thank you for your patience

The Airport Company kindly asks all travellers to be patient until all the new units on the landside and airside are in operation and all the modernisation measures have been completed. Where partition walls are currently concealing the renovation work, culinary delights from around the world will soon be enticing passengers to enjoy a pleasant moment before departure. The airport thanks you for your patience and understanding and looks forward to the moment when the entire work of art that is the terminal remodelling, with 17 new food and beverage outlets, will soon be shining in all its glory for passengers. Many project participants are working hard on this – the airport is shaping the future and building for you.

Statement

Thilo Schmid, Chairman of the Management Board (CEO)

"This is a milestone and will permanently change the face of the airport. The versatile concepts are part of a completely new retail and hospitality programme, with a distinctive regional connection to our location."
