The trade union ver.di has called for warning strikes at several German airports tomorrow (10 March) in the public service, handling and aviation security sectors. This will also lead to considerable restrictions on flight operations at Cologne/Bonn Airport.
The airlines have already cancelled a total of 98 passenger flights between early Monday morning and early Tuesday morning (49 take-offs, 49 landings; as of 3:45 p.m.) due to the parallel warning strikes, which represents the majority of the originally planned connections. Further cancellations, diversions and delays are also to be expected. Originally, 172 passenger flights (91 take-offs, 81 landings) were planned for the entire period of the strikes between Monday morning and Tuesday morning, most of which will now not take place.
Passengers who have booked a flight to or from Cologne/Bonn during the strike period are urged to enquire about their flight status with their airline or tour operator before travelling to the airport. Information on departures and arrivals is also available on the airport's website.
The warning strike was initially called by airport employees in the public sector and the staff of service providers in ground handling. Security staff at the airport's passenger, personnel and goods checkpoints were also called off at the weekend. The warning strikes will begin early Monday morning for employees in the public sector and handling service providers. They are expected to last until early Tuesday morning. Security staff at the checkpoints have been called upon to stop work for 24 hours from 4 a.m. on Monday morning.
