Statement on waiting times due to power outage

Status: 6.30 p.m.

Due to a technical fault in the power supply, there were long waiting times at security checks on Thursday afternoon (26 February). The airport apologises to its passengers and thanks them for their patience.

The reason for the long waiting times was a temporary interruption in the power supply directly to the security lanes, which meant that only one security lane could be used at a time. Technicians were on site immediately and worked hard to fix the problem. The power supply disruption was resolved quickly. All available security lanes were gradually brought back into operation after the fault was rectified.

Nevertheless, the interruption and the associated failure of the security lanes resulted in long waiting times and disruptions to operations. The airport informed passengers on site and deployed additional staff to provide support in the terminal. Water and snacks were distributed to travellers. The airport worked closely with authorities, service providers and airlines to keep disruptions to a minimum. Waiting times decreased in the late afternoon.

As part of the ongoing renovation of the security checkpoint, which is being carried out in several construction phases while operations continue, five conventional security lanes and three CT lanes are currently available as planned. The latter are in regular operation, but were not available today, which meant that the technical failure of the conventional lanes could not be compensated for. The reason for this was an additional technical inspection by the manufacturer, which the airport had arranged as a precautionary measure. This was completed in the late afternoon, so that CT lanes could gradually be put back into operation in the evening.
