The 24-hour warning strikes announced by ver.di began at Cologne Bonn Airport this morning. Since 6 a.m., public service workers have been called to strike. Large parts of the airport staff are taking part. The staff at the passenger controls also started the warning strike at the same time. Both warning strikes are expected to last until 6 a.m. tomorrow.
Due to the warning strikes, there will be no regular passenger flights at Cologne/Bonn Airport today. Originally, a total of 136 passenger flights (69 take-offs, 67 landings) were planned at Cologne/Bonn for the 24-hour strike period, but 134 will not take place. Passengers were informed in advance by their airlines and did not even make the journey to the airport. The terminals are almost empty this morning, except for a few travellers. Passengers affected are asked to contact their airline or tour operator. Originally, a total of about 15,000 travellers were expected to arrive in Cologne/Bonn today, Monday.
In view of the current collective bargaining negotiations, the service sector union ver.di has called on public service and aviation security workers to strike. They are called to strike between 6 a.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday. In addition, security staff at personnel and goods checkpoints walked off the job at 10pm on Sunday night, causing long delays for workers to get to work. Here, the strike is expected to last until 11.59pm tonight.
