Warning strikes underway at Cologne/Bonn Airport

The warning strikes announced by the services trade union ver.di are underway at Cologne Bonn Airport. Since 10 p.m. last night, public sector workers have been called to strike. Large parts of the airport staff are taking part. The strike is expected to last until midnight tonight, in some areas until early Saturday morning.

The union has also called on aviation security staff at passenger controls to take part in the warning strike. The strike started at 6 a.m. this morning and is expected to last until 7 a.m. tomorrow.

Due to the warning strike, there will be no regular passenger flights at Cologne/Bonn Airport today. Originally, a total of 148 passenger flights (75 take-offs, 73 landings) were planned, but as things stand at present 144 will not take place (73 take-offs, 71 landings).

Passengers were informed in advance by their airlines and did not even make the journey to the airport. The terminals are almost empty this morning, except for a few travellers.

Passengers affected are asked to contact their airlines or tour operator and inquire about the status of their flight. Further information on the flight schedule is available on the airport's website at www.koeln-bonn-airport.de.

ver.di has announced warning strikes at Cologne/Bonn Airport in view of ongoing collective bargaining negotiations for public service and aviation security employees. In addition to the employees in the public service, the employees at the personnel and goods controls also stopped work last night at 10 p.m., which is why employees can only get to work with long delays. Here, the strike is expected to last until midnight tonight.
