Airline celebrates inaugural flight to Bucharest.
Four more destinations in Eastern Europe to follow.
Comeback at the airport: Wizz Air is taking off and landing again at Cologne Bonn Airport with the start of the winter flight schedule. Yesterday (Sunday, 26 October), the airline began its new service to Bucharest and will fly to the Romanian capital up to four times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays). Three more new routes will be added in December: Tuzla, Skopje and Tirana. The airline has also already announced that it will be adding another connection to its route network from next summer with Podgorica.
‘We are delighted that Wizz Air has returned to our airport, initially with an attractive connection to the capital Bucharest, and will be further expanding its route offering in the coming weeks,’ says Thilo Schmid, Chairman of the Management Board of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. ‘The airline's new destinations enrich our route network and offer our passengers additional travel options to the important destination market of Eastern Europe.’
‘We are excited to connect Cologne and Bucharest — two vibrant cities that share strong cultural and personal ties. This route is especially important for the Romanian community living in Germany, who can now easily visit family and friends back home, as well as for travelers eager to explore the beauty and diversity of both destinations. Let’s WIZZ!’- mentions Anastasia Novak, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air.
With its first flight to Bucharest, Wizz Air is entering a new phase of its commitment to Cologne/Bonn and will be adding further destinations in winter: From 12 December, the airline will connect the airport with Tuzla in Bosnia-Herzegovina (up to three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays), and from 15 December, it will add the route to the North Macedonian capital Skopje (four times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays). One day later, Wizz Air will also add Tirana, the capital of Albania, to its schedule (three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays).
The new connections will increase the density and diversity of the airport's route network to Eastern Europe. This will be further enhanced by Wizz Air's launch of the first connection from Cologne/Bonn to Montenegro next summer. From 2 June, the airline will fly four times a week to the capital Podgorica (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays).
Modern Airbus A321 aircraft will be used on all routes, with many connections being operated by the optimised A321neo. The connections can be booked at www.wizzair.com and in the Wizz Air app.
