Security check
The central security checkpoint is easily accessible in the centre of Terminal 1, where both passengers and hand baggage are checked. If you wish, you can book a free time slot for the security check with CGNGateWay up to 100 days before departure.
Carrying out security checks is a sovereign function of the federal government and the relevant security authorities, which the airport officially oversees. At Cologne Bonn Airport, security checks are carried out by staff from a private security contractor.
Tips for a speedy check
Guidance on carrying liquids and drinks
- Unlike at some other airports, each person is permitted to carry up to 2 litres of liquid.
- Liquids may be divided amongst several leak-proof individual containers, for example two 1-litre bottles or four 0.5-litre bottles.
- Filled water bottles are also permitted, provided the total volume does not exceed 2 litres.
- Not permitted: non-leak-proof containers, e.g. takeaway coffee cups or drink cups. These cannot be screened by the CT scanners.
- No separate bag is required for liquids.
- Liquids remain in your hand luggage during screening and do not need to be removed.
