What do the cities of Cork, Kyoto, Rotterdam, Tunis and Dnipro have in common...? What do these and 18 other cities have in common? And what does the Rhineland or the airport have to do with it? Well, they are all twin cities of the Rhine metropolis Cologne and ‘figureheads’ at Cologne Bonn Airport.
As part of the ‘Walk of friends’, each of Cologne's twin cities has had its own colourful banner at the airport since last year - and yesterday the new addition of Dnipro, the first new city partnership in 13 years, was added. Since 28 August 2024, the city with its central location in Ukraine has been a new addition and is Cologne's 23rd twin city.
The ‘Walk of Friends’ is freely accessible to everyone. The walkway, in which the designed banners can be seen, connects the airport's two terminals on the departures level. This is where the check-in counters and the central security checkpoint are located. So anyone checking in at Terminal 2 and then going through security will pass through the ‘Walk of Friends’. This campaign by the City of Cologne, the CologneAliance association and the airport aims to make Cologne's twin cities even more visible and better known to the public. The ‘Walk of friends’ is also a popular photo motif.
