End of the summer holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia

Boarding an Eurowings aircraft outside Terminal 2 at Cologne Bonn Airport

During this year’s summer holidays, more than 1.8 million passengers travelled via Cologne Bonn Airport, 5 per cent more than last year. The busiest day was Sunday 30 August, with 43,400 passengers.

A total of 26 airlines flew to 115 international destinations in 38 countries. Turkey and Spain were the most popular destinations, followed by Greece and Italy. Antalya and Palma de Mallorca were the top destinations.

All passengers were able to use the new security checkpoint, which is fully equipped with the latest CT scanners and is one of the most modern in Europe. Travellers no longer need to remove electronic devices from their hand luggage and are permitted to carry up to two litres of liquid. There is also a ‘Kids’ Lane’ for families with children.

Passenger numbers at Cologne/Bonn are set to remain high in the coming weeks. The airport expects one million passengers in both September and October.
